Le
groupe de Siddhalepa plonge ses racines dans le système local de médecine préventive
et curative du Sri Lanka. Ses origines se situent à Walpola, Imaduwa, un village
lointain de la région de Galle, à l'extrème sud du Sri Lanka, et son savoir
s'est transmis de l'arrière grand-père au grand-père, du grand-père au père
jusqu'à aujourd' hui le fils, le Très honorable Dr Victor Hettigota, président
du réputé groupe de Siddhalepa, une famille prestigieuse d'enseignants ayuvérdiques
dont la réputation est vieille de plus de 200 ans. |

Hendrick
De Silva Hettigoda after studying Ayurveda and Astrology under his farther,
proceeded to India and studied under the Yogis in their Ashrams at the foot
hills of Himalayas for over 15 years. He was fluent in Sinhala, Pali, Sanskrit
and English and was a highly respected Ayurvedic Physician and an Astrologer
of the highest calibre. In recognition of his expertise in the field of Astrology,
he was elected to be the President of the Astrological Society of Sri Lanka,
then Ceylon. |

Dr.
Victor Hettigoda, Chairman, Hettigoda Group of Companies, was born in Kanake,
Matara, Sri Lanka. Born in 1937 to a family of resound standing, reputation
and admiration. Victor was the fifth in a family of nine children. Victor received
his education at Rahula College, Matara. On leaving school he joined his farther
as a "helper student" in persuit of ancestral noble profession of Ayurveda Medicine.
It took Victor nearly 12 years to learn the art of Ayurveda Medicine. He spent
many late nights burning the mid-night oil, engrossed in "Ola Leaf" manuscripts
and books on Ayurveda. Victor's untiring efforts and devotion towards Ayurveda
won the accolade of his farther, resulting in the reward of disclosing the secret
formula of "Siddhalepa" balm; the wonder balm. The desire for independence,
the opportunity for achievement were in him, but financial resources were a
problem to him. However, the initial investment of Rs.2500/= came to him from
the purse of trusted relative in 1971 to start his venture. |

Victor's
dynamism has no limitation. He travelled far and wide by bus reaching every
nook and corner of remote villages on foot in an effort to promote Siddhalepa
Balm. However, his wife, a graduate teacher, kept the home fires burning and
nursed the three children amidst many sacrifice. Dr. Hettigoda recalls the year
he purchased an old Hillman car. that was in 1977. Besides the old car, he employed
a 17 year old youth to assist him in his clerical work and other business activities.
Today, his Company, a resounding success, has a fleet of over 120 delivery vehicles
and a workforce of over 750 persons distributing a host of Ayurvedic products
in Sri Lanka besides a lucrative export market. the Comapny is a source of beneficial
employment to physicaly handicapped persons and less fortunate ones. |

Dr.Victor
Hettigoda's achievements in the sphere of Ayurveda Medicine is magnificent.
In recognintion of his colossal contribution in the field of Ayurveda Medicine
and his services to the industrial community in particualr, Dr. Victor Hettigoda
was vested with the prestigious award of "Deshabandu" the President of Sri Lanka
in May 1990 followed by "Vishava Prasadini" award confered by on him by the
Prime Minister in April 1996 for his outsatanding contribution and service to
the Ayurveda Industry in Sri Lanka. |

of ASIAWEEK named him "Balm King" in recognition of his contribution to
Ayurvedic Industry.
- In February 1998 issue
Lanka Monthly Digest has named him as the "King of the Masses".
- Established the first
Sri Lankan Fetiliser Company to manufacture Organic Fertiliser and received
then IFOAM International Organic Certificate for Suraya Compost Fertilizer
in 1995.
- In February 1998 issue,
Lanka Monthly Digest named him as one of the "50 Greatest Sri Lankans since
Independence".
- First Ayurveda company
to receive International Standards Certificate for Quality ISO 9002 in 1994 and have received ISO 9001 in year 2001.
